Psycho-educational
Psycho-educational evaluations are aimed at helping to understand the road blocks preventing school aged children from performing their best academically. Often these evaluations are designed to answer specific questions about learning disabilities, information processing problems, school based conduct problems, or issues of intellectual ability (including admission to gifted programs). We specialize in assisting parents, teachers, school psychologists, and others in the school setting in the development of learning plans, 504 plans, and other special learning curriculums. Auditory processing, language delays, dyslexia, and other reading problems are all part of this broad category of evaluations. At HPS we custom tailor these evaluations in order to create custom learning solutions to assist children and adolescents in reaching their potential.
Personality
Personality testing involves the completion of standardized testing instruments such as the MMPI or projective tests such as the Rorschach in order to understand a person's unique personality characteristics/traits, impulse control issues, or the degree to which they experience depression, anxiety, or other symptoms. Personality testing can yield insights into the nature of one's interpersonal problems or life struggles. Personality testing can often yield novel information about a person that cannot be easily obtained elsewhere and that is often of great assistance in therapy.
ADD & ADHD
Specialized testing for ADD/ADHD is important in order to differentiate between ADD/ADHD and other disorders that share similar symptoms. ADD/ADHD evaluations consist of the completion of surveys, measures of attention, concentration, executive functioning, and often times intellectual ability, and academic achievement. We specialize in performing ADD/ADHD evaluations that not only bring about diagnostic clarity but that lead to custom treatment plans. ADD/ADHD comes in various forms and we pride ourselves in performing these evaluations to suit each and every individuals' unique needs.
Learning Disabilities

Surgical Clearance
Several types of surgical procedures require clearance from a mental health professional; these include bariatric surgery, organ transplant, sexual reassignment, and some plastic surgical procedures. These evaluations generally consist of one or two interviews, and occasionally the completion of a personality assessment measure such as the MMPI.
Personnel
Many employers are relying upon personality assessment as part of the pre-employment screening process. Law enforcement agencies, schools, child guidance centers, and many other agencies rely upon test results from instruments such as the MMPI. We are available to consult with employers and employees on pre-employment screening and are able to offer these services in a cost effective manner.
Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE)
Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE) are performed in order to assist in understanding a child or adolescent’s unique educational needs. These evaluations consist of measures of intellectual potential, academic achievement, and learning styles. The aim of an IEE is to come to an understanding of obstacles that may be preventing an individual from performing to their level of ability educationally and then based on objective results, recommending educational and sometimes psychological interventions.
Often the goal of an IEE is to be able to provide direction and assistance in the development of a 504 plan or an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) as part of the special education process. The psychologists at Holtz Psychological Services pride themselves in being advocates for children and adolescents within their school systems, often working hand in hand with other members of the individual’s educational team. In some circumstances parents may elect to work with an educational advocate, often an attorney in order to pursue services for their child beyond what the school district may be offering. IEE’s permit unbiased, and thorough evaluations of a child or adolescents learning needs without some of the limits often present in school based evaluations.
